Alpine supplies and applies Gilsonite aluminium roof coatings for suitable roofs. A roof painting or coating quote covers the agreed preparation, access and application work as well as the coating product. Compare the roof condition, proposed system and written scope, not just the price of the paint.

The area and shape of the roof

Share an approximate roof size if you know it, but say whether it is measured or estimated. The roof layout, separate sections and access arrangements also need to be understood.

For several sheds or a group of commercial buildings, identify the areas separately. That makes it easier to discuss the scope and any staging.

The existing surface and preparation

An existing roof may have previous coatings, repairs or visibly affected areas. Describe what you know and ask how the contractor will assess the preparation needed.

The quote should explain the included surface work and the condition assumptions behind the price. Ask how any additional work will be raised and approved.

Repair work and exclusions

Do not assume a coating price includes repairing all roof defects. Andrew can arrange required repairs through his trade network, with the repair work carried out by those tradespeople. Ask which repairs are allowed for, what is excluded and who will carry out and quote that work.

If you know of leaks, damaged sections or past repairs, provide that information at the start. It helps keep the coating discussion connected to the condition of the roof.

Access and the working building

A contractor needs to consider how the roof is reached and how the work fits around the site. Explain normal operating hours, vehicle routes and any areas that must stay accessible.

For a South Island project outside Alpine’s Greymouth base, include the exact location and programme. Ask the quote to make any project travel or accommodation allowances clear.

The specified product and written scope

Ask for the proposed product, the scope of application and the relevant technical information. Make sure any maintenance or warranty terms relate to the actual system being quoted.

  • Check that the same roof areas are included in each offer.
  • Compare preparation and repair allowances.
  • Confirm access, site protection and timing arrangements.
  • Identify exclusions and the process for approving variations.

Getting a useful quote from Alpine

Start with the location, how the building is used and a description of the roof. Add your preferred timing and approximate size if known. Andrew can discuss what is needed next for assessment and quoting.

There is no published one-price-fits-all rate in this guide. A meaningful price needs the actual scope for your building.

THE USEFUL BIT

Compare the work included, then compare the price. Preparation, repairs, access and product requirements need to be considered together.

Your building.
Your next step.

Share the location and a few details. Andrew can talk through the job with you.
