BEFORE WORK STARTS

Agree who does what.
And when.

Start with plans, specifications, the property address and key dates. Identify which areas can be accessed, whether the building stays in use and which other trades need to finish before surface preparation begins.

The quotation and agreed scope should set out preparation, coating requirements, inclusions, exclusions and handover expectations. Any wider project-management or contractor-coordination responsibility should be discussed and agreed explicitly, not assumed to be part of a painting quote.

For an occupied building, include the practical constraints: working hours, customer or staff access, equipment and stock, and areas that cannot all be taken out of use at once.
